The Freeport Press was established as a weekly newspaper in 1880 in Freeport, Ohio by J.J. Ashenhurst, and has been in continuous operation since this date. The printing company has changed ownership, sometimes between family members, many times since 1880, and the present owner and CEO is David Pilcher Sr., who bought Freeport Press in 1997. Although it now does all types of excellent catalog printing for certain customers in 1997, forty percent of its business was being engendered by the Harmon Homes Real Estate facility.
Mr. Pilcher Sr. decided to close down the cold-set presses and take the Freeport Press in an entirely new direction, and today focuses on the commercial heat-set market.
The company now employs over one hundred and seventy skilled print workers and sales have improved to over twenty million dollars. The commercial heat-set printing company currently specializes in the printing of digest magazines, tabloid, and catalog printing on a variety of heat-set substrates. The Freeport Press has installed four heat-set presses, and is able to incline glue or saddle-stitch, cut, fold, tip, insert, and inkjet. The printing company is one of only two postal optional procedure mailing facilities in the state of Ohio.
The Freeport Press has a diverse product mix, which includes direct mail single sheets and multi-page flyers. The company produces an extremely high volume of direct mail publications ,as well as small publisher publications, newspapers, inserts, periodicals, and catalog printing.
The Freeport Press is both a publication and general commercial printer with amazingly rapid turnarounds and the fully-staffed pre-press operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Customers are delighted with the fine catalog printing results of the heat-set printing company and the speed with which they receive their orders. The professional and experienced staff at the Freeport Press printing company assists customers with setting up their projects from the origination of ideas to the completion of the product working with them to provide the most efficient and cost-effective product available.
The catalog printing facility of Freeport Press is a nationally recognized commercial printing company, which has been experiencing a double-digit growth over the last eight years under its current ownership.
This satisfactory and impressive growth has been experienced during the period of a severe industry stress situation in which over forty printing plants in the Ohio Valley have had to close down their operations. The Freeport Press company has a strong administrative team, dedicated employees, and a wide customer base, which has progressed with the company into exciting areas of new technology and methods. The company has been fortunate to have had solid suppliers and bank support. Local, county, and state, as well as national government agency support has provided the company with tax abatement on new expansions, lower interest loans, and training grants to develop skills of employees. Freeport Press has welcomed many new accounts, which previously did business with some of the largest printing facilities in the country. The catalog printing company is proud to have secured this business with affordable pricing, quality workmanship, excellent service, and fast turnarounds. |
