Vibrant, surreal and magical: just a few of the words that spring to mind as we look through the winners of the Smithsonian’s 2014 photo contest.
The grand prize is something out of a dystopian fairytale; two seamstresses half-buried in green tulle as they work to finish the edges. Other winners range from the exotic to the everyday, writ large or shown in breathtaking miniature.
